During a business trip to Los Angeles, California where I was going to be featured on a television program, I stayed at the Mikado Hotel in Sherman Oaks. This choice was driven by the need to be close to the studio and also to be near my friend’s home so I could visit them in Sherman Oaks. The Mikado Hotel is an affordable and no-frills accommodation, perfect if you are on a budget but also want to have a comfortable stay.

“The Mikado Hotel in Sherman Oaks offers a comfortable and budget-friendly option for travelers with a car in Los Angeles.”

The Mikado Hotel, located in the Valley Village area, is conveniently situated near the airport and various theme parks. Its proximity to Universal Studios Hollywood and other attractions like the Hollywood Walk of Fame makes it an ideal spot for tourists. The hotel is also a short drive from other key locations such as The Getty Center, Universal CityWalk, Warner Brothers Studio, and the Hollywood Bowl.

The hotel itself offers a range of amenities that cater to the needs of a budget-conscious traveler. Free high-speed internet access is available, ensuring connectivity for planning day trips or catching up on work. The highlight of the property is the outdoor pool, which is small but provided a refreshing retreat from the hectic city.

In terms of room features, the Mikado Hotel has 58 rooms, each equipped with air conditioning, flat-screen TVs with premium channels, refrigerators, microwaves, and coffee/tea makers. My room was clean and comfy.

The hotel offers a basic minimalist breakfast buffet every morning, which includes scrambled eggs, hash browns, juice, coffee, cereal, and toast.

The Mikado Hotel's overall vibe is reminiscent of its days as a Best Western Plus, with a style described as a "motor inn" and featuring free self-parking. Some rooms have balconies or patios, and some units face the freeway and a back parking lot, which isn’t as pleasant as other rooms. I found the staff at the hotel to be pleasant to deal with.

The Mikado Hotel in Sherman Oaks offers a comfortable and budget-friendly option for travelers with a car in Los Angeles. The convenient location, essential amenities, and serene pool area make it a viable choice for those looking for a straightforward and pleasant stay. While it might not boast luxury features, it provides a decent base for exploring the city's attractions.
