Detroit, Michigan ✈
Located in the heart of downtown Detroit, Michigan, the MGM Grand Detroit combines luxury, comfort, and entertainment in one impressive property. During my stay, I was upgraded to the Grand View Executive King Suite. My experience was overwhelmingly positive.
Arrival and Check-In
The check-in process was smooth and efficient. The staff at the front desk greeted me warmly, processing my check-in quickly while providing details about the amenities and services available at the hotel. Armed with my key card, I made my way through the lobby.

Entering the Suite
Taking the elevator to the 15th floor, I found my room easily. The Grand View Executive King Suite opened to a long hallway, which created a sense of separation between the entrance and the living area, adding a layer of privacy.
The living room was thoughtfully designed, featuring a comfortable sofa, a desk for working, and a wall-mounted television. Complimentary bottles of water awaited me next to an ice bucket and a Keurig machine stocked with several pods, a convenient touch for coffee drinkers.
The room’s view faced the Detroit River, providing a stunning perspective of the city skyline and the water in the distance. This view alone elevated the suite's appeal, especially at sunrise and sunset.
The Bedroom and Bathroom
The separate bedroom was equally impressive. It featured a king-size bed, soft linens, and plenty of storage space with clothing cabinets and another wall-mounted television. Additional amenities included a mini bar fridge and a closet stocked with an iron, ironing board, and a safe. While the suite did not come with a refrigerator initially, when I requested one, it was delivered to my room promptly.
The window view from the bedroom faced the same direction as the living room, offering a consistent and beautiful perspective of the Detroit River. While the curtains in the living room were manual, the bedroom featured a convenient blackout blind that could be lowered behind the curtains with the touch of a wall switch.
From the bedroom, I entered the luxurious bathroom, which felt more like a private spa. The bathroom featured his-and-her sinks, a standalone soaker bathtub, and a walk-in shower with a rain shower feature and body spray side jets. The shower was large enough to hold a small party in it. It offered a relaxing and indulgent experience. The toilet was located in a separate area which you enter via a frosted glass door. The bathroom was well-equipped with a hair dryer, two bathrobes, and slippers, adding to the comfort and convenience.
My Experience
The suite provided a comfortable and high-end retreat to return to after exploring Detroit. The living room was perfect for unwinding with a cup of coffee, while the bedroom offered a restful night’s sleep. The bathroom was beautifully designed, providing a spa-like experience that added a touch of luxury to my stay.
The only issue I encountered was one day when I requested housekeeping services, and my room was not cleaned despite multiple calls to housekeeping throughout the day. However, the hotel manager eventually intervened, resolving the issue to my satisfaction, which I appreciated.

During my stay, I had the chance to visit many interesting places including the following:
The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation
Located in nearby Dearborn, this museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in American history and ingenuity. The exhibits cover everything from the evolution of automobiles to iconic artifacts like the Rosa Parks bus and the Wright Brothers’ workshop. It’s an inspiring look at the innovation that shaped modern America.
The GM Renaissance Center (Ren Cen)
Situated along the Detroit River, this iconic complex is a symbol of the city’s revitalization. I spent time exploring the shops and restaurants within the complex and took the elevator to The Highlands Bar, located on the 71st floor. The bar offers unparalleled views of Detroit, the Detroit River, and across the water into Canada. It’s a fantastic spot for drinks and enjoying the skyline.
Belle Isle Park
This 982-acre island park is a gem on the Detroit River. With its beautiful walking trails, scenic water views, and attractions like the Belle Isle Aquarium and the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory, the park was a peaceful escape from the urban energy.
The Motown Museum
For music lovers, the Motown Museum is a pilgrimage. Located in the house where Berry Gordy founded Motown Records, the museum offers an in-depth look at the history of this legendary music label. Touring “Hitsville U.S.A.” and standing in Studio A, where countless hits were recorded, was a memorable experience.
This outdoor art environment is one of the most unique attractions I visited. Located in Detroit’s East Side, it transforms an urban neighborhood into a large-scale art installation. The colorful, thought-provoking displays created from repurposed materials celebrate creativity and highlight social issues, making it a truly one-of-a-kind experience.
The MGM Grand Detroit’s location and amenities made it easy to relax after busy days exploring the city. Whether it was the luxurious suite, the casino, or the dining options, returning to the hotel after each outing added to the enjoyment of my trip.
