I recently had brunch at Krembo, a kosher bakery and dairy restaurant in Orlando, Florida. Located at 8015 Turkey Lake Road, the restaurant’s name immediately caught my attention because it is also the name of a well-known Israeli treat - a chocolate-coated marshmallow confection with a biscuit base that has been a favorite in Israel for decades. Before my meal, I took a short drive around the area. The stretch of Turkey Lake Road in Orlando is not as crowded with tourist traps as some parts of the city, and it has a relaxed, suburban feel that is perfect for those who enjoy a quieter pace.

When I arrived at Krembo, I noticed that there was a small outdoor seating area facing the parking lot. I headed inside, where the decor had a clean, modern design with white walls and subtle decorative touches. Large menu boards hung above the ordering counter, which are neatly organized and framed by simple wooden accents. A display of packaged Krembo snacks lined one side, while small tables and chairs were arranged in a practical layout that allowed customers to sit comfortably without feeling crowded. Bright lighting and floor-to-ceiling windows gave the space an open, airy quality, and there was a view of the outdoor seating area just beyond the entrance. The overall ambiance was relaxed, with a steady flow of patrons stopping in to enjoy a casual meal or coffee, adding to the welcoming, communal feel of the restaurant.

The menu covers a wide range of dishes to choose from. For starters, there is a selection of appetizers such as crispy fries, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, and even crispy cauliflower. The sandwich section features a variety of choices including bagels and baguette sandwiches with fillings like smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado, tuna, and even sabich-style combinations that mix hard-boiled eggs and fried eggplant with tahini sauce. In addition, the breakfast menu presents dishes served until mid-afternoon; options range from a simple breakfast for one with eggs prepared to order, accompanied by house bread, a small salad, and several signature morning sides, to a more generous breakfast for two that includes extra eggs and a larger salad.

For something lighter, the restaurant offers a range of salads. You can choose from a Greek salad with feta cheese, a Caesar salad with crunchy croutons and grated Parmesan, or more innovative selections like a Halloumi salad with vegetables and fried cheese coated in breadcrumbs, as well as salads inspired by traditional sabich or featuring fresh tuna and corn. Pasta dishes are also featured prominently on the menu; diners can select from comforting classics such as fettuccine Alfredo or tomato basil penne, as well as pasta pesto and penne alla vodka that combine creamy sauces with familiar Italian flavors. The pizza options round out the main courses, with traditional cheese pizzas, versions topped with fresh cherry tomatoes and basil, Greek pizzas finished with feta and olives, and even gluten-free alternatives. The restaurant also caters to special occasions and dietary needs with a dedicated Shabbat menu and includes fusion-style creations like an Asian vegetable stir-fry and creative takes on custom toast and panini that mix warm, toasted bread with crisp greens.

The restaurant’s name, Krembo, is also the name of a popular Israeli treat. It’s a confection that consists of a round cookie base, a soft, whipped marshmallow cream center, and a thin layer of chocolate on the outside. The treat’s history is interesting: it originated in Northern Europe and was brought to Israel by Ashkenazi immigrants, who later saw its transformation under manufacturers such as the Whitman Company and Strauss. In Hebrew, the name translates to “cream in it,” which perfectly describes the treat’s structure. Despite attempts to introduce other flavors like mocha, banana, or strawberry, the traditional vanilla version remains the most popular among those who grew up with it.

After finishing my meal at Krembo, I decided to explore further. I parked my car and walked to a nearby shopping center where small, locally owned shops offered unique items ranging from artisan crafts to specialty food products. The neighborhood has several cafés and dessert spots, which makes it a good location for an extended afternoon outing.
