I recently stayed at the Hyatt Place New York/Yonkers, located at 7000 Mall Walk in Yonkers, New York. The hotel is situated in the middle of the Cross County Shopping Center, which makes it a convenient option for those looking to visit New York City without paying the high prices of Manhattan hotels. The hotel is about a 15-minute drive from northern Manhattan, making it an accessible choice for visitors who want proximity to the city without staying in it.

For business travelers, the Hyatt Place New York/Yonkers provides excellent facilities. In addition to comfortable rooms with ample workspaces, the hotel also has small conference rooms available, making it a practical option for meetings or small gatherings. The hotel's location offers quick access to Manhattan yet avoids the congestion and high parking fees often found in the city, which makes it ideal for those combining work and leisure. The Hyatt Place New York/Yonkers was built in recent years, replacing an office building that previously occupied this part of the mall.

Yonkers is one of the oldest cities in New York State, with a history dating back to the early 1600s. Originally settled by the Dutch, it was once part of the vast estates of the Van der Donck family. The city began to grow rapidly in the 19th century with the rise of industry, particularly in manufacturing, and became a key location for the production of textiles, paper, and other goods. Over time, Yonkers transformed into a diverse urban community with a rich history in both industry and culture. The city's location along the Hudson River made it an ideal site for trade and transportation, and it continues to be an important part of the New York metropolitan area.

The Cross County Shopping Center has a long history, having been built in 1954. Over the years, it has evolved to keep up with changing retail trends. The mall is primarily an outdoor shopping center with a small section that has several stores contained indoors. The current anchor stores are Macy's and Target. The Macy's store originally opened as a Gimbels, later becoming a Sterns before transitioning to Macy's a few decades ago. The Target store is relatively new, having opened in a space that was previously occupied by Sears for many years.

In addition to the anchor stores, the mall features a variety of clothing stores, including H&M, Old Navy, Zara, and Forever 21. Shoppers can also find popular chains such as Bath & Body Works and Ulta Beauty. For dining, the mall has several options, including Chipotle, Applebee's, Panera Bread, and Shake Shack. There is also a Starbucks located within the shopping center.

One of the notable features of the Cross County Shopping Center is the presence of a movie theater, which provides an entertainment option for visitors. Additionally, the mall is home to one of the largest Stop & Shop supermarkets in the area. Unlike most Stop & Shop locations that only carry packaged kosher goods in their bakery sections, this particular store has a completely kosher bakery. Target also offers a selection of kosher food items, making it possible for those with dietary restrictions to find suitable options.

During my stay at the Hyatt Place New York/Yonkers, I found the hotel amenities to be useful. The hotel has a gym equipped with treadmills, free weights, and other workout equipment. There is also an indoor pool, although it was under renovation at the time of my stay. The lobby area includes a seating section where guests can relax or work, and there is a small market with snacks and beverages available for purchase. Parking at the hotel is free, which is a significant advantage compared to other hotels in the area.

The room I stayed in was comfortable and practical. It featured a nice, comfortable bed with crisp white linens and a light-colored headboard against a dark accent wall. A small living room area with a sofa bed was separated by a decorative translucent partition with a tree branch pattern. The seating area included an ottoman and a side table, providing a cozy spot to unwind.

The room also had a mini fridge, neatly tucked away in a wooden cabinet along with a coffee maker and complimentary coffee supplies. A desk with an ergonomic chair and ample lighting made it easy to catch up on work. The flat-screen TV was mounted on the wall, providing a good viewing experience from both the bed and the seating area. The layout of the room provided enough space to move around comfortably without feeling cramped.

Transportation options are convenient for guests staying at the hotel. There is a bus stop within the Cross County Shopping Center, located near the hotel, providing public transit access to various locations in Yonkers and beyond. This makes it easier for guests without a car to explore the area or commute to nearby destinations. Additionally, you can take a bus, taxi, or rideshare service to nearby Metro North train stations, offering an easy alternative for getting into Manhattan without needing to drive.

Westchester County offers several attractions for visitors. The nearby Hudson River Museum in Yonkers features art exhibitions, a planetarium, and historic Glenview Mansion. Untermyer Gardens, also in Yonkers, provides beautiful landscapes and walking trails. A short drive north leads to the scenic villages of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, known for their historic sites such as Kykuit, the Rockefeller estate, and Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

For those looking to explore Manhattan, the hotel's proximity makes it easy to access popular attractions. Times Square, Central Park, and the Museum of Modern Art are all within reach. The nearby Bronx Zoo and New York Botanical Garden are also excellent options for a day trip before heading back to Yonkers.

While the mall itself does not have any kosher restaurants, the availability of kosher food at both Stop & Shop and Target makes it possible to find suitable meals. For those looking for a hotel with convenient access to shopping, dining, and basic amenities, the Hyatt Place New York/Yonkers provides a practical option. The location within the Cross County Shopping Center allows guests to have easy access to a variety of stores and services without needing to travel far.

This hotel also works as a great spot for solo travelers, couples, or anyone looking for a staycation. Its easy access to public transportation, such as buses, taxis, or rideshare services, makes it convenient for visitors to reach nearby Metro North train stations without having to drive into Manhattan. With a buffet breakfast available, the hotel ensures that guests start their day off right before exploring or attending business meetings.
