Whenever I’m in Jerusalem, Israel and have a craving for a slice of New York City style pizza, there’s one place I go to satisfy my appetite: Big Apple Pizza. Located on a side street off the Ben Yehuda pedestrian mall on Luntz Street, this pizzeria is a little slice of the Big Apple itself, complete with thin crusts and an atmosphere that mirrors a New York City eatery. It's a must-visit for anyone seeking a genuine New York pizza experience in the heart of Jerusalem.

Big Apple Pizza was founded in 1986 by Haim Kedem, who spent many years in New York City. Inspired by his time in the Big Apple, Kedem decided to open a pizza shop in Jerusalem, aiming to bring a piece of New York to Israel.

Over the years, the chain has expanded significantly, now featuring ten other locations across Israel as of the time of writing this article. Each branch is designed to give patrons a feel of New York City, with interiors reminiscent of a New York City café, adorned with pictures of the city and American license plates on the walls. This unique setup adds to the authentic New York experience for both locals and tourists alike.

Big Apple Pizza is renowned for its food, catering to a wide range of dietary needs. The pizzeria has become a staple in Jerusalem's culinary scene, attracting a diverse crowd of Israelis, American expats, and tourists from around the globe. It’s definitely one of my favorite places to have pizza while in Israel.

While staying true to its New York-inspired roots, Big Apple Pizza also embraces its Israeli identity. The menu features a variety of toppings and spices, including corn and za'atar, catering to local tastes. This fusion of New York style and Israeli flavors creates a unique dining experience that resonates with both locals and visitors.

The menu at Big Apple Pizza includes a variety of options. Pizzas come in family and XL sizes with a variety of toppings like olives, mushrooms, and more, including a gluten-free option. Pasta lovers can enjoy penne and fettuccine with different sauces, and extra cheese as an add-on. Side options include garlic bread, salads, fries, and onion rings. For dessert, there's Ben & Jerry's ice cream in various sizes. The drink selection ranges from water and soda to lemonade. Salad choices are ample, with several dressings to choose from.
