A Day at The Edge in New York City: Sky-High Thrills and Panoramic Views at Hudson Yards
New York City ✈
On a brisk New York City day, I visited The Edge at 30 Hudson Yards. And no, I'm not talking about the guitarist from U2. I'm referring to the breathtakingly unique observation deck. The Edge is the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere. The 100th Floor patio with a partial glass floor daringly extends from the building, offering a panoramic view of the city.

“If you're in New York and looking for an experience that combines thrill, beauty, and a touch of modern luxury, The Edge at Hudson Yards is a must-visit.”
Hudson Yards is a massive real estate development on the West Side of Manhattan, transforming once underutilized space into a vibrant, modern neighborhood brimming with residences, offices, shops, and cultural institutions. While visiting The Edge, you can shop or grab a coffee at the Shops at Hudson Yards located at the first few floors of 30 Hudson Yards. Right outside The Shops is the famous Vessel sculpture. The High Line Park is even adjacent to The Edge as well.
The Edge at 30 Hudson Yards stands at a staggering 1,100 feet above street level, offering an expansive view of New York City's skyline. Its history is a narrative of ambitious urban development, transforming the New York skyline in a way we haven't seen since the iconic Empire State Building.
My journey to The Edge started with the elevator ride. It's not just any elevator; it's an experience. The rapid ascent to the observation deck is accompanied by a multimedia presentation on the walls of the elevator, giving a brief history of New York City.
Reaching the top, I was greeted by a cloudy sky, but that didn't diminish the awe-inspiring views of the city. The clouds added a mystical charm to the sprawling urban landscape below, a view not commonly seen from this vantage point.
What sets The Edge apart is its unique design. It's a triangular platform jutting out from the 100th floor, giving visitors the feeling of being suspended in the sky. This cantilevered design is not only an architectural marvel but also provides an unparalleled viewing experience.
The most exhilarating part? Walking onto the glass floor. The partial glass floor in a section of the deck allows visitors to look straight down to the streets of Manhattan, offering a unique perspective of the city. It's not every day you get to “float” above an amazing city like New York. Walking on the transparent section of the floor is a heart-racing moment for anyone with a fear of heights. However, if you can muster up the courage, I highly recommend you do so.
Recently at The Edge, they unveiled a new experience called City Climb which sounds even more exhilarating than walking on the glass floor. City Climb is recognized as the highest open-air building ascent in the world. This adventure involves scaling the outside of 30 Hudson Yards, more than 1,200 feet above the ground. Climbers get to experience leaning out from the highest outdoor platform in New York City, offering a perspective and thrill unlike any other.
The experience begins with meeting your Climb Guide. Participants are required to store their belongings and wear a special climb suit. Climbers harness up and get acquainted with The Rail, a safety system that keeps them securely attached to the building. Here, climbers receive their final instructions before starting the ascent. You then scale the building, which includes climbing a 45-degree angled staircase. This leads to the ultimate moment of leaning out over the edge. After all the excitement you can visit the restaurant located just above The Edge observation deck called "Peak Restaurant and Bar." It offers a luxurious dining experience on the 101st floor, providing spectacular views of the city. The restaurant is known for its elevated menus, warm hospitality, and dramatic decor, offering a unique dining experience in New York City.
As my visit came to an end, I took a moment to appreciate this architectural marvel. The Edge isn't just an observation deck; it's a symbol of New York City's ever-evolving skyline and its relentless pursuit of innovation and grandeur. If you're in New York and looking for an experience that combines thrill, beauty, and a touch of modern luxury, The Edge at Hudson Yards is a must-visit. Just remember, it's the one that sticks out of a building, not the musician with a guitar. Safe travels!
